Hello!
We’re back! Sorry for the drop in regularity, you can be assured my mum has already complained to me about it! I’ve been busy working on my next show and a few other fun and exciting things. So we might be a little up and down for the next wee while. But you can always keep up to date with what’s happening over on Instagram as well.
The Content
THE PAY WALLS ARE OUT OF CONTROL.
Not only will every single website I visit insist on me turning off my Adblock before I indulge, but then I’m also getting ads for Adblock. They want $35 for the privilege of ‘using’ their software that every website in the world can detect immediately. It’s not that I don’t want to pay for anything, but it is practically infeasible to try to pay for everything. Could I delete it all together? Maybe, but what if it does do something after all?
Constantly, I will click on a link to The Cut only to find that the article is quite boring, but then when I find another article with promise but then I’m BLACKLISTED from the whole damn site. How will I leave the next article up in a tab for two weeks before recommending it to you after a quick skim?
Perhaps this should be taken as a sign I need to just get off the internet and read my teetering stack of unread books for a change.
The Food
I went to 100 Flinders Lane on Friday night for a glass of wine when I had an hour to kill between a meeting and watching Greg Larsen’s fantastic London-bound show.
I turned up looking more than a little dishevelled and they took me into their arms and poured me a glass of Yugen Tropical Sunrise. The wine is a delightful drop not dissimilar to a glass of Passiona. Luckily similarity to Passiona is one of the main things I look for in a sophisticated drink.
I don’t know how it happened but when I went I was so affected by the Melbourne Pollen that I forgot how to properly behave at a restaurant. I was trying to do fine lady dining but I was spilling water down my shirt, knocking cutlery off the table and shoving too big a bites of cheesy focaccia into my mouth. It was frankly, uncouth.
I had to go back again the next day with my boyfriend to try and do better. Or at least that’s the excuse I used.
The Social Stuff
I’ve been betrayed by a nasal spray.
I’m not opposed to using a nasal spray. It takes me ever closer to accepting my fate as a giant nerd. Two squirts on a plane have saved me from blocked ears and intense sinus pain on more than one occasion. But this week I learnt that nasal sprays are not to be messed with.
I started a new spray with steroids and antihistamines and it has destroyed my nose. It’s constantly burning like I’ve dived into a swimming pool right after a chlorine overdose. I looked up a review of the medication and people that used it were complaining about everything from brain fog, spontaneous nose bleeds and increased anxiety.
Worse than anything else - it’s the most foul taste I have ever experienced. I know I’ve spoken here about “If you taste it, you waste it before” and please know I’m doing everything I can to avoid this taste and it’s proving impossible. So for now, the spray will be binned and I will continue to suffer from a hayfever induced post nasal drip.
Doesn’t that sound much cooler?
The Miscellaneous Stuff
What’s been happening around here? I’ve been procrastinating with these links.
Loving chair week at Clever and these chair reviews.
Love this website about the gender inequality in street names.
For any comedy nerds, I’ve been enjoying the book ‘Finding your Comedic Genius’. Of course, I’ve already found mine but it might help you.
I love Autumn. Spring is the devil.
Cried when he signed his name on the boot. Great Cobbler video.
As ever, I enjoyed Season 3 of Rose Matafeo’s Starstruck on Iview.
Final Words
I hope this edition has satiated your ravenous appetite for I shaved my legs for…THIS?!? That is of course my endless and eternal goal. I appreciate you sticking around to read it as always and will try and get more regular on the updates.
Right now though I need to go grocery shopping on a Sunday afternoon and I can only hope that everyone took the Monday off for an extra long weekend so it isn’t so much of a nightmare!
Glad to know I'm not the only one browsing instead of real reading. My stack of unread books, plus unheard Audibles, plus unscreened Kindles, exceed my life expectancy.
And thanks for the tip on Season 3 of Starstruck - I hadn't heard it was out.
